Miracle

form within form
a miracle is born
lungs filled with breath of air
sweet infant perfect work of art
nestled near her mother’s heart
bright path on earth begun
for parents and child a love affair
blessed family under the sun

form within form
a child is borne
hears her mother’s heart
with rhythmic song
babe grows from egg
to twenty inches long
afloat on inner rolling sea
begins a ripe expectancy

sleek vessel cradles cargo within
sails to a shore she’s never been
buoyant voyage of maternity
an expanding cruise to foreign land
weary journey to new nation
she scans the shores of parenthood
edged with agony and elation
and prays for only good
